Stuff You Should Know About Antioch:
We are a 136 year old congregation and like all churches, we have had our share of ups and downs, but God is breathing new life into us as a congregation as we seek to adapt to the changing world around us. In fact, we are in a season of focused transition as we seek to discern our role in God’s Kingdom and how to live that out in the context of a mid-size college city located in the Bible belt.
We are led in this process by Pastor Pete Tackett, a self-described broken man, helping broken people find their way in a broken world. He and his wife, Lori, have been in ministry for 27 years and love to hang out with the Antioch family. They have been married for nearly 27 years and have two adult children, Sarah Gwen and Jonathan.
As we enter this transition process, here are a few words that will help you to know us before you arrive:
- Traditional but not stuffy – Our worship is choir and praise team led and flows from one element to the next.
- Open but not overbearing – If you attend our service for the first time, we are small enough that someone will probably greet you and get to know you, but we will not ask you to raise your hand, stand, make a speech, or give money.
- Casual but not sloppy – You will find the pastor does not always wear a coat and tie and there will be people there dressed in everything from jeans to suits. We try not to worry about what you wear, figuring we should just focus on our own stuff.
- Biblical but not judgmental – We believe the Bible to be the word of God for this generation and there are still rights and wrongs, but we also know that we are all on a spiritual journey and that it is not our job to judge or condemn you. In fact, we hope you find us to be a place and people of grace.
